The story of Alaçatı, Hacımemiş and Pop
In 2010, in Alaçatı's Hacımemiş quarter, we took over a shop that had once been the neighbourhood's Güneş grocery and had stood empty for perhaps decades. We filled it with vintage finds of every kind and switched on a big, glowing yellow POP sign. Back then Hacımemiş was a place only its residents and a handful of tourists had heard of. It was soon discovered: antique dealers, restaurants, boutiques and shops of every kind opened one after another, and every season the number of visitors multiplied.
The architectural plans for Hotel Pop had been drawn a few years earlier, but building could only begin in autumn 2016. We had a garden without trees, in the middle of Hacımemiş's buzz yet sheltered from it. There we built a house with eight rooms, all different, a cool courtyard and a small swimming pool. We have welcomed guests since summer 2018.
Alaçatı has a building style all its own, and a brand-new-looking building would have clashed with Hacımemiş. Besides, we are collectors! We love things that carry the marks of time more than anything fresh out of its packaging; that is where we find soul.
We gave the hotel the name of our shop, by then a Hacımemiş classic. The hotel's design speaks a different language from the shop's, but both grew from the same roots. We closed the shop in 2020; the name POP and its idea live on in the hotel.
We worked with care and attention to detail, and we are happy with the result. We love our team, our building, our decoration and our guests. The Good Vibes Only mural on the high wall behind our stairs says exactly how we work and how the hotel feels.
More important than our own satisfaction is our guests' happiness. With its central location, its design, the taste of its breakfast and, above all, its warm and friendly service, Hotel Pop Alaçatı soon found a place of its own in Alaçatı. Our biggest aim is to keep our guests as happy as our means and our enthusiasm allow, and for that we keep improving ourselves and the hotel.
